The Shrine Background
The Shrine of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus was consecrated and re-dedicated on May 17, 2007 to promote the Spirituality of St. Thérèse and to enliven the devotion to her among the faithful of the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines and their dependents.

It stands at the former location of St. Michael the Archangel Chapel of Nichols Airbase. In 1983, the same Church was dedicated to St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus.

In April 2000, the former President Joseph Estrada signed the Deed of Usufruct which entrusted the location to teh Military Ordinariate of the Philippines.

In January 2007, His Eminence, Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, Archbishop of Manila reaffirmed the permission granted to the Military Bishop by the late Jaime Cardinal Sin to hold liturgical celebrations and gatherings of the Military Ordinariate at the Shrine.

On the day of its consecration, Most Rev. Leopoldo Tumulak, Military Bishop, declared the Shrine of St. Thérèse as a Diocesan Shrine of the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines.

Features and Amenities
Envisioned to be the center of devotion to St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus in Asia, the Shrine is well-equipped with features and amenities that make celebrations of faith truly enriching.
  • A Narthex (Lobby Area) will meet churchgoers upon entering the main church where they could freely converge
  • The church is designed to be Column-less to give an unrestricted view of the Main Altar
  • A total of 164 pews abound the Church area seating a total of 1,804 parishioners in a Fully Air Conditioned Holy atmosphere
  • Colorful Stained Glass Windows adorn the Church walls
  • The Church ceiling is Acoustically Treated to minimize sound reverberation
  • Near-ear Listening Capability has been conceptualized via the sound system used within the Church
  • A Primary Relic of St. Therese will be placed inside a glass enclosure that will rest on the foot of St. Therese ‘s statue on the right side of the altar
  • Security Access Card System is equipped for the Columbarium Vault owners
  • Our Lady of the Smile Hall (above the Narthex) is built to serve as a Crying Room for families with toddlers who have tendencies of crying (it is enclosed in glass to defuse the crying sounds created by babies)
